Marc Haibeck?s latest (Jan 2017) recommendation on what to use for the 1990s LT5 can be found on the Haibeck Automotive Technology website:

I currently use the Z-rod oil in 10w-40. I fail to find the AMO label on the Amsoil web site.

Just a point of interest.
On the amsoil site, I entered my info for a 93 Chevrolet Corvette 32 valve. Their site did not suggest the 10-40 Z rod oil, but rather three others. Do they know something................................ Again, just a point of interest. ![]() Marty |

As a temporary measure to get an oil change in, I picked up two jugs of Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 yesterday. A nice 40 weight synthetic oil, as Marc recommended, plus 1100ppm of zinc, both speced and confirmed in independent testing.
The 0W part doesn?t really mean much now, but is a nice extra when I?m trying to get those last late November/early December drives in, or those monthly winter time starts. Bonus, it was only $27 Can for a 5 quart jug.

Erik, I'm also using that 0W-40 European formula and my Z loves it, despite all the flack I got when I first mentioned it on here.

I can?t imagine why you?d get flack. It?s a very high quality modern oil, rated as Marc recommends (40), with the Zinc our engines require, with the bonus of being priced reasonably. Where is the crime in that?
