FBI Galina cruise in...Oh, yeah!

Ami and I picked a route with Corvettes in mind and made our way from Morris to Galina IL. We found some beautiful roads with some nice twisties and view, culminating among the many shops at the" Fried Green Tomato's". WOW! What a fun day!.

UPDATE on the Galina road tour

Ami and I started out west of Morris on Southmor, and picked our way along various roads along the south shore of the IL River to Starved Rock State Park. Then we wound down through the park (with trees overhanging the road most of the way down) before jutting up north through Utica to pick our way NW along some very nice (read: smooth, some curves and little hills, and no pot holes...and almost ZERO traffic) to get to the Mississippi near Fulton, IL. There we took (84) along the Mississip - to Savanna. From there to Galina the ride was especially scenic (and the road was more like what you'd want for a playful Vette!).

Galina was a-buzz with people, shops of all kinds, and several nice pubs and eateries! Did I mention nearby Bed and Breakfast places abound too??

We had dinner at "Fried Green Tomatoes", an Italian cuisine place with table linens and fine wine and food.

Time to head home. We headed east on Stagecoach Rd, which turned out to be the highlight of the road tour. It was a very nice, wide, smooth blacktop that had many twists and turns, "rollercoaster" hills, and some beautiful panoramas!!

Ami and I had a great time; great roads and great food, all in a festive atmosphere. Wow! However, it (for us) was about 8 hours total of driving, round trip, so to do it right, it is probably best to plan an overnight venture.

SO! What it is...

This is an opportunity for some East Central Region members, e.g., the FBI gang to get to meet some of the IA, MN, and WI people that might be interested in a fall GTG, sometime in mid October, in Galina, IL.

It is not a "meeting of warriors" i.e, for drag racing, or the like. It is primarily envisioned as a social event in which the "significant other" might like to attend and meet and have a mini-vacation (overnight) and take in some of Galina's sights, and have dinner together after...with some fun Corvette kind of roads in the mix! (This might be the least we can do for them - after putting up with the rest of us that live and breathe ZR-1s all season long.)


For the FBI gang, Sometime, probably the first or second weekend in OCTOBER (when the leaves are turning, BTW) the tour will start on a Saturday morning rally point (Wal Mart parking lot - just south of I-80. For those coming from elsewhere, you're welcome to meet there as well, or perhaps pick your own route and we'll all join up in Galina.

Sounds like fun Paul. If you plan on it for the 1st weekend in October, October 6 & 7, I will commit to attend today! Otherwise work gets in the way of my Corvette fun!

Wow! Having you along would be great! Stay tuned. (I too have the same issues, far as timing goes)
