Default What kind of MPG to expect?

Just wondering what kind of MPG everyone is getting so I know what to expect?

I just burned through my first tank and got 13.3 with about 1/2 frwy & 1/2 city letting it out just a little (I am still getting used to it). I read that the original rating was 17/28 which I could not believe for this type of a performance machine.

I am not overly concerned with the cost as the Z is my weekend toy... I just want to make sure there isn't a potential mechanical issue (if I should expect 18-20).

Thanks,
Peter

that seems low to me...but I have never actually done the math. My C5 Z06 averages about 19.4 MPG since I've had it according to it's computer. And, it is regularly breaking posted speed limits.

My ZR1 doesn't get out as much due to me not being able to afford a new set of tires for it. But I think it gets better MPG than the Z06. Or it has a bigger tank or something?

Someone on here has to know the specifics. Now I have an excuse to do some driving. Sweet!

Except it is like 105 in Houston and I don't want to even go outside.

Does anyone know how to beef up the AC on these things? I wish mine could flow more air.

The 441 (3:90 gears) get's 26+ MPG on freeway driving and 11-12 around town. That's without blowing the rear too.
The LPE 385 (3:90 gears) gets at best 23 on the freeway and 12 around town.

I get 26-28 daily on the freeway with stock gears. About 21 running around town. That mileage is exceptionally low for an LT5 that was the only Corvette of the time to beat the gas guzzers tax emposed by Federal regulators in the U.S. during its production run.

Replace the blower fan. Night and day after replacing mine last summer. It tends to get hot in Phoenix as well

There's huge variation on the mileage these cars get depending on how and where you drive them. I find that on long highway runs I can get up to 27mpg. If I hotrod it around town I'm down around 11mpg. In "normal" driving, some highway some city I'm about 14.5mpg per the computer. It just depends if you baby it or not. Like you it's just a toy to me so I don't get too excited.

Just an FYI:

Early 90's came with a window sticker claiming 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Near the end...94-95...they came with window stickers claiming 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Thanks for the responses. I am taking the car in to Guldstrands to upgrade the radiator to a high capacity performance one next week. I will have them check it out.

On a 5k mile road trip in '07 we averaged 24 mpg for the trip. I was very happy with that number considering we crossed the continental divide multiple times, ran at 80mph most of the time on the freeways (with the a/c on a lot) and ran it up into the triple digits several times while in the back lands of Nevada.

Driving sensibly around town the numbers fall into the 15-18mpg range.

btw - "The Beast" is a 99% stock '90. The only components it didn't come off the assembly line with originally are the tires, a/c condenser, and fuel injectors.
