Default Rectangular tinting on the lower center of windshiled

I'm still exploring my ZR1 and am finding "things."

I noticed that my windshield has a small rectangular "tinting" of some sort on the bottom of the front center windshield. Apparently, the shading seems to cover the hood/cowl area? It is very faint and not super noticeable.

Any idea of what this is about?

That would be radar detector port. Unlike regular C4s, ZR-1s had metallic film laminated between two sheets of glass to reduce heat gain. Since metallic film and it's reflective quality reduced detector range, GM's solution was to build in a detector port.

That is in addition to my Cobra Radar Port as well as Garmin Mapping antenna Port and XM Radio antenna Port.

Don't you just love the politically correct corporate communications department?

The LT5 was so physically large, that they had to put a half sized a/c compressor in the ZR-1. To help out, they offered the solar ray tinted windshield to reduce the solar load.
