Can anyone identify the purpose of the small mounting stud circled below? Its located on the firewall just inboard of the steering column.

They put it there to confuse engineers as they know no one else would even notice.

How about on an A4 car it's used inside the car to anchor the park/lock cable behind the accelerator cable bracket? If you look at the pedal linkage I posted in another thread you can see the perforation for it next to the pedal bracket studs on the plate. Is the angle deceptive?
