Clever bracket ideas to hold secondaries open? - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

Before I start fabricating, I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone has come up with a clever simple way to hold the secondary throttle plates open.

I'm in the middle of a plenum pull and have decided to remove the secondaries. I've ordered a chip from Marc. He convinced me I don't want/need to tackle the removal of the plates and their shafts at this time, and it's easier to just make something to hold the plates open for now (and save the bigger job for a future date).

I'm assuming I'll reconnect the two linkage shafts, and make a pair of brackets to hold the linkages in the desired position.

Anyone already do this, and can save me some mental effort? It's in short supply these days.

Just tie wrap them open. Ran that way for 2 years w no problem. However, you'll need chip re-done. I actually removed the throttle plates.

Yes, thank you. I had a closer look and tie wrap or safety wire should work fine. No fancy bracket needed.

Maybe someday I'll remove the throttle plates. I agree it's the right thing to do. Certainly no reason for keeping the restriction. I'm just not ready to go that extra step at this time. I'm jonesin' to get it on the road again. Can't wait to see what it's suppose to feel like (with new coils and injectors). I should get an extra bump of performance from Marc's chip, too. Woo hoo!

Tied my secondary actuators open with tie wire. New chip, coils and rebuilt injectors. No regrets. Wish i had cleaned the starter solenoid contacts at that time. Would have saved another plenum pull.

YES! Good point. My contacts were pretty much used up after 40k miles. So, for less than $10 for the pair, I replaced them while the plenum was off. (Also cleaned up the contact ring (I call it) of arching deposits: reused the original (shuttle).)

I bought mine on ebay, but since I've seen them at NAPA and I suppose they can be found elsewhere (fairly common to several cars, apparently).
