Got it Dominic; I didn't see that the bolt is at the base of the housing - thought that the anchor bolt was INSIDE the housing...

You can wipe this thread - shows how much I DON'T know

Yeah Chuck. I don't think GM wants you to open the belt assembly. You may find it doesn't work well but that is a matter of the position its in.

The belts need to be installed for proper operation. Never an issue while in the car.

I recently had my upholstery guy replace the leather on my left lumbar on the drivers seat. After he was done, the seat belt would not expand. there is a release button but it did not do anything. When I told him he knew right away that it was a very little spring that releases the belt mechanism and lets it work properly. he took it apart, oiled the spring which was still there and it has been ok since. You would be surprised how cheesy that little spring is. I am no sure if you are experiencing the non expanding issue but that is my two cents on this matter.

THAT'S what I call 'on top of things' there edram! GREAT INFO!

Do you see that spring in the snappics in the other thread? http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22010 Which one is it? You're not talking about the 'Cinch' button?

No problems with the one I got from Dominic, or my own belts that I'm unloading to PhillipsLT5 there, but I sure didn't see what the 'activation / release' mechanism' is, to uncoil the belt as removed ...

edit:
thinkin' more on that there edram (see the smoke from thinkin' too hard - dual exhaust )

...I bet no one knew about that spring. THAT'S what it's all about yUp.

Glad I was of some help. I am just getting to know the ZR1 and believe me, I can get quite compulsive when I have a thirst for knowledge on something I really care about. I was quite surprised when my upholstery guy showed me the spring that made the belt work. He said that if that broke it was time for a new belt mechanism. I am sure somebody can improvise and make another spring like it or similar but that is what he said. This guy has done tons of interiors and seats for all models of cars. He has done many c4's so when I took him mine, he had the seats out and in pieces in 15 minutes. There is nothing like taking your car to a guy who knows his business.

Same thing happened to me the first time I took the driver's side one out. There was a recall on them (89 - 91) that was recall #91058.
