Just received my Build sheet & Window sticker from BG today. Some very interesting info to say the least. Right now I am assuming that #0009 was scheduled to go directly to engineering from the beginning as per info on this paperwork.
Enclosed are pics of said items, and you will notice the DEALER TO WHOM DELIVERED... CPC GROUP ENGINEERING CENTER 30003 VAN DYKE RM. A 106 WARREN MI 48090 DEALER NO 00-502 ![]() ![]() ![]() This would explain how this ZR-1 became part of the "Captured Test Fleet" If anyone can share some insight on the actual delivery destination, it would be appreciated. I will also have to try to contact Tim Holland and verify delivery info. Thanks for checking this out....I feel this ZR-1 is turning out to be a solid piece of Corvette History, which is really neat, to say the least....... ![]()

Interesting info on the 93, will have to check my label this weekend. You can see the change(difference) from the window stickers & build sheets from one year to another..... can also notice the ship to dealer info is different from the 93 to the info on the 94....... thanks for the info......the saga continues......... ![]()

This thread is starting to convince me it's time to get off my duff and order a copy of the build sheet for our 94,from the NCM.
Probably wouldn't hurt to renew my NCM membership after all these years, too. |

Warren is where the test track is, isn't it?
I remember seeing spy shots of ZR-1's being flogged around there in the early days. One shot stuck in my mind of a white one with a "forced air" type hole in the front bumper. That's why I put one in mine. During that period, I once saw a ZR-1 for sale at a dealership in Ft. Lauderdale, as a "demo". It had a sticker on it that indicated it was delivered to Warren Mich. originally. I noticed that it had no rubber covers on the brake and clutch pedal, strange? |

Warren is the GM Tech center, the test track is Milford Proving Grounds. So the car was delivered to CPC Engineering where it would undergo test drives and other pilot sign off tests and maybe was at Milford, where Tim was based, although that time frame is getting close to Lotus setting up the office in Southfield.

Some interesting observations.......
It appears that we have stumbled across "ENGINEERING TEST ZR-1's", which just adds more history and info for a great machine. On my Build Sheet at the top (which is cutoff in the pic) is the date.... 9/10/93 and time...10:01 24 which could be the start of the "build", or the end, as the bottom RH corner says, "OK TO SHIP". So if that is the case and the engineering department received the 94 shortly after, then it must have been tested and used for an extensive period of time. As the date on the cover of the PROM from Tim was dated 3.30.94 And as mentioned before, Tim did say the vehicles were used on a daily basis, as if they were their own cars. And if parts were suspect, they were changed out. So the questions arise.... How long were the test cars in operation for the engineering group? How many miles were put on each vehicle? What parts, if any were replaced and were future changes made on the line? Do any records exist for the "Test ZR-1's"?

I'm not much help on this, but my mid-production '91 steel blue (#732) was redirected to the Mesa Proving Grounds in Arizona mid build......on the build sheet, the original dealer was crossed through by hand and redirected to the proving grounds.
I was never able to find out much more about the car, whether it was used for performance testing, reliability testing, a local exec's company car, etc. I do know the Carfax only shows owners back to '94, so a full 3 years after it was built. I'd have to look at the mileage it recorded the first time it was registered, but I believe it was around 15k miles. If I recall correct (and it's entirely possible my mind isn't working right), the time on the build sheet is when the build sheet was printed, so it roughly corresponds to the car's production start. I know I'm not a whole lot of help, but my car sits in that mystery zone too. I know '50s and 60's Vettes that show proving ground delivery on their build sheets are considered valuable, but that's in the eye of the buyer to place a monetary value on that sort of thing.
