Yes, I had to release it. I know the owner of the lodge quite well and he would have flipped out if i killed it. The large muskies ans pike are his bread and butter. He gets many returning customers looking for the big fish. Plus a few TV fishing shows.

Fishing for the big northern pike was a favorite past time while living in and visiting eastern Montana... thats a nice muskie!!!!!!! Congratulations what did you catch it on??

It is an intresting story. We were fishing for walleye and not catching much. We happened to see this fish follow and look at my jig and minnow. I then quickly tied on a leader and a five of diamonds spoon and casted out about 10 times not expecting anything. When it hit it felt almost like a snag but all of a sudden it took off and ran for abit. I slowly worked it to the boat and my buddy actually put his arms around it while it the water and hauled it in (we only had a small walleye net with us). He took quite a risk with all those teeth and a hook. Believe it or not I had 6lb test on. Still can't believe it didn't break the line.
