I was never convinced that the ZR-1 I procured in 2007 still had its TPS devices... the tires were switched from the OEM to GY GS-D3 in circa 2002 and there was a possibility that the sensors were (1) damaged and removed or (2) simply removed or (3) remained. Well today my son demounted the GS-D3s from the rear wheels (both are going to be refinished..both have a bit of clear coat failure blight...not much but enough for me to fixate on
![]() ![]() So there they be and in perfect shape which leads me to this question....pros & cons of removing all four sensors...I have heard that the sensor set up makes balancing the wheels a PIA or impossible??? Love to hear opinions on this question. Now to next item... we all have discussed the production changes that have occurred with the LT5 from the 90 to 95 engines (actually 93 LT5 since that was the last year MercCruiser was building the LT5)...here is a little subtle change that might interest you>>> I posted in a different thread about the defect in the fuel return line coming off of the fuel rail>> ![]() Well, in getting a replacement fuel return line it turns out that the line in a 90 & 91 LT5 is a different configuration and length than the 92-95 version... here is the comparison... the 90 line is the bottom one and the 92+ line is the one with the yellow cap on one end>> ![]() Just a FYI and I have the correct line coming in this week. Why did you think that you did not have the LTPWS sensors?
Are/were you getting a warning light? It all boils down to your decision to keep or loose the sensors. There are arguements pro and con- its up to you. Pros: When working, they will tell you of a low or flat tire. Remove them and the dash warning light may always be on. Cons: PITA to keep functional sometimes as tire changes are likely to break them. Piezoelect cell inside can wear. The fear of them flying off at high speed. (Balancing tires with them has never been a problem for me) Last edited by tf95ZR1; 02-02-2009 at 04:52 PM. |

If you remove all 4 TPS then DIC will not come on..
As to whether they were there or not...well if you purchased a ZR-1 that you did not have control of from the get go how would you know?? Remove all and there is NO indication on the DIC of such and remove one or two or three then yes the DIC would pop off..thus my point |

You could have swapped on one of the extra wheels you have laying around, or the spare, and drive it. If the other three wheels have LTPWS, you should get a code. There are probably other ways too, shy of breaking the wheel/tires down.
I wouldn't be as worried about balancing as about 20 year old plastic staying together at high rotational speeds. If you don't plan to drive it a lot, maybe it's not such a concern though. |

Hey Mike,
I'm curious about the fuel line situation. I take from your post that there is a different P/N for the 90 - 91 line and that the 92 - 95 lines are a different P/N? Are the 90 - 91 lines NLA? Or did the dealer just order the wrong P/N? Sorry to be so full of Q's....I was eyeing mine up this weekend while I was swapping out my PCV hoses and from your pictures I'm not too happy with the way the same line looks on my car. It has the same discoloration in the exact same spot as your line, which I assume your leak was along the discoloration streak. TIA ![]() Tom

Tom...
Yes there are two different PN for the fuel lines... but moot since the fuel lines are NLA from GM. A few aftermarket folks have NOS ones of the 92+ versions but could not find for 90-91. The one I am getting is a low mileage excellent condition from a part out project. Possibly a aftermarket version will be developed...stand by for that option for now. Qs are good... that's how we are learn and boy do I have a lot more to go ![]() |
