This is a video of the IMSA supercar series, a ZR-1 is running against Callaway and several Consulier GTPs. The Consulier is a much lighter car, and you will hear how they weighed the ZR-1 down with 500lbs to try to even the field... this lead to some dangerous braking issues and eventually teams pulling out of the series. Credit again to Brian White for sharing.

I understand Mosler was a big sponsor of SCCA and the Consulier was produced strictly for racing, but made its way into the supercar class with a production of 50. The ZR-1 was weighted down to over 4,000 lbs, and brakes were a major issue. The Rippie setup/Callaway powered Aerobody Corvette was fast, with obviously more power and torque than anything else out there, but believe blew a turbo. It had a weight penalty as well, but I don't know how much. The racing you are seeing is testament to what an incredible driver Kim Baker is, particularly on his home track at Lime Rock. Due to the weight, the ZR-1s commonly broke springs and split apart the normal J55 calipers. Thereafter, there were "enhancements" to the J55 calipers to strengthen them as well as the introduction of the Delco-DS3 3 piston calipers to the GM aftermarket parks catalogue, which enabled these teams to use them on their race cars. Although in the catalogue, these calipers were never made publicly available.
Escort series, Corvette Challenge, and the following World Challenge series were some of the best racing events ever, IMHO. These guys didn't have the millions of dollars to develop ultimate race cars, rather very innovative guys who worked on shoestring budgets for the love of racing. Regards, Mark

Having driven that track many times, I can say that swinging a 2 ton Corvette is a feat in itself. Great video. Thanks for the time taken digitizing and uploading.
