Default So I was at the Ford dealership yesterday...

I got word there was a 2010 ZR1 at our local ford dealership, so me and my buddy head up there to check it out. A "buddy" of mine works there (bleeds ford blue) and I asked him where it was and of course he said it was gone...well we were bummed. Anyway I asked him if he got to drive it and he said "Yeah, and that thing is a screamer...BUT ITS NOT AS FAST AS THAT NEW SHELBY OVER THERE..." I thought I was going to get in a fist fight. He started spouting out the most irrelevant and untrue "facts" about both cars and how the Shelby had 20 more horsepower than the Zr1....this was a 2010 zr1, the have 638hp...the shelby has 600. I told him he was probably thinking of the z06 and he said No sir...even with the proof in front of him he still denied it. Oh well, I just left him with "Well you do sell Fords for a living..." and went about my merry way. Anyway, thought I would share that with you. The new Shelby is a very fast car but it is not in the same category as the ZR1.

The new Shelby 5.8L engine is in fact the most powerful production V8 ever built. It is 650HP and the car is capable of 200MPH and 24MPG. I think it is a remarkable car to have that performance along with a backseat. So yes it does have a smaller displacement yet more powerful engine than the ZR1. I'd personally love to see GM license that motor and put it in the Vette.

I just never cared for any fords.. Even tho they are American made , I just don't like'em. FORD " F'd Over Rebuilt Dodge"
Even if the Shelby had 600 ponies I doubt it would ever hold up to a long distance torture test .( but I could be wrong ).
Oh and welcome !!

Well I stand corrected, I was unaware that the 2013 had 650 horses. I think the Shelby is an awesome car, would love to have one, I'm a car guy (not necessarily a GM, Ford, Dodge, whatever) just like great cars of any make / model. Still think the 2010 Zr1 will wax it due to the other factors like weight distribution, suspension, etc.
About the "most powerful production V8 ever built" I assume you mean horsepower per cubic inch?

If someone gave me a new Shelby, I'd keep it.
If someone gave me a new ZR1, I'd keep it.
If someone gave me a Nissan GT-R, I'd sell it.

I think it is actually 662HP in the Shelby if we want to get specific. One pully swap in either car will send you North of 700HP pretty quick. Aventador? Why would anyone? Ohh.. the women...duh.

The new mustang shelby cobra does have the power and it would probably be the better car to go drag racing with, but I dislike it from it being too low tech.

it reviews poorly on the track tests because it carries a lot of speed, but the brakes are kind overworked because of that. It is also an all steel car without any VVT cam phasing like the n/a 5.0 has. Who knows how much profit they make on these cars, but it is just another bloated 3900 lb pony car.

even the suspension arms are steel- the Boss 302 is a much better dollar for dollar buy imo.

My 2 cent's FWIW......I love the American muscle. If it's American and rumbles it's all good. Ford builds a great car. I do however prefer the early retro Mustang's over the newer style. Again this is my taste.

Now. To make this clear I will say that the newer car's IE: ZO6 ZR-1 can NOT be driven to they're limits safely by most of us. They are a hand full and a half. Even with the "nanny's" on. Dare to take the "nanny's" off ? Don't.

I sold a well prepped ZO6 last year. The car had wide sticky Nitto's , suspension work , cam headwork etc. The car put down 535 rwhp and 500 ft lbs on a very conservative dyno. With cat's and stock exhaust. But dyno numbers never impress me. that car weighed in at 3030 lbs with a half tank of gas. Let me tell you that car was a handful and scared the crap out of anyone that opened the passenger door. Left me laying down a bacon strip or 2 also.

Tracked at 10:29 @ 134.6 mph and drove like a Caddy.

What I'm trying to get at is most , if not all of us are not experienced enough to take one of these car's any where near they're limit's , safely.

The new ZR-1 as we say .. even more so. Technology move's on.These car's are not for the weak hearted. And by all mean's should be respected if one value's life.

Now the Ford is a great car. But we shouldn't compare to the new Z's. And neither should anyone else.

My rant is over.
