Okay here goes. I have 70,000 well maintained miles no rattles or strange noise and no cats. What oil and what additive and oil filter should I use?

It's been said by those that make the stuff that it is best to buy oil with the needed ZDDP already baked in.

Here's info from a thread only a few down from yours, far as oil goes, and one from a pole question that has been going on for a while. The main concern is getting oils with the ZDDP rating they had when the engine was new, which is .12%. API SL or SG was the equivalent rating. Read on...

Do a search on filters, but I buy the Bosch filter (don't remember the # just now) from AutoZone. They can look it up on their database, which includes the ZR-1s, BTW, and filter that comes up is the Bosch that has the flapper in it so oil does not come gushing out when you remove it.

Bosch filter 3401 or the Fram HD one for off hiway use...it's white unlike the orange ones...I'll dig up the part number in a minute. Fram TG 3985 or the Mobile M1-207 works also....don't buy them by the bunch unless you're sure that the batch has good check valves.

Amsoil now makes a 10w-30 with the right amount of ZDDP additive baked in to it.

I have been using 10W-30 or 5W-30 regular Mobil 1 since I bought mine with about 30,000 miles back in 2000. Since about a year ago I have been adding 1/2 bottle of ZDDP (2 ozs) per change.
She just turned 120,000 and no issue.

Would it hurt to used a whole bottle of ZDDP I dont have cats and if it wont hurt I dont mind spending a little more for some more piece of mind.

I don't know what side effect, if any, too much ZDDP can have.

Take a look at the Valvoline VR1 Racing and Not Street Legal oils. They has the high levels of Zinc and Phos needed. I ran this by Marc and agreed they would work. Just another alternative for us. I will be trying the 10/30 on my next oil change.

Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil contains .13% of Zinc and .12% of Phosphorus

I've used Royal Purple for a while then switched to Amsoil which is even more expensive than RP but it has the right amout of zinc. Plus Corey Henderson said Amsoil offers the best protection for our cars. Amsoil is not always easy to get.
