Ummmm yeah...Like the time the plenum gaskets I ordered that turned out to be L98 plenum gaskets. The dude at the parts counter, after checking the number under ZR-1, AND having me look too, he insisted they were "the right ones". I invited him outside (had the car with me) to show me just where those gaskets (L98s) would fit on the LT5. He came outside and actually started pouring over the engine, looking for the place those gaskets went!
Anywayz...the point is obvious, but dittos on the metric vs English: Had the same problem on my 95 Vette - ended up using the old ones too. (I did find some later at Mid America Corvettes tho.) But, speaking of that blue thread locker, other than mild resistance - like threading a fitting over a pipe that has teflon tape on it - nothing like what you are discribing and certainly wouldn't break a 1/4" drive installing it!
