If you try to remove that grommet you stand a good chance or dmagaing the top deck lid paint. Removing the grommet will not be helpful in any event as there are almost certainly broken peices of the old mast stuck in the take up reel.

The job can be done in a few hours max, I didn't even jack up the car to do it.

You'll need a helper to turn the radio on/off for you as you try to feed the new mast into the antenna.
