here's what I do which works pretty well.

I jack up the back of the car using a "jack a vet" which lifts the car by the rear differential.

then I lift using a 2 by 4 under the front engine k frame.

that way the frame isn't twisting. not sure if you can still get these or not.

for lowered cars I use the rhino ramps and back the car onto them to get a bit of clearance.
