Think of it this way, if something arcs, think of all the 'black boxes' our cars have that cost plenty...and some of'em are NLA....why take the chance, right?
I know it sounds like we're FSM geeks. I remember a friend of mine who went to trade school for auto-tech back in the late 60's & that's the first thing he did before doing an major motor dissassembly. "ya do it this way so ya don't do any unintended arc welding" was his answer when I asked why.  |
Exactly right. I can promise that it hurts worse when you are holding the wrench that arcs.
On a second note, just price the cost of a new ECM and it'll become apparent.
