You're right it is a quite a chunk of weight.
With salt back on the roads again this week in Pittsburgh I haven't had a chance to drive it more than a few miles last weekend so hard to say yet if it really effects shifting. I do like the "knuckles up" hand position.
It comes with a couple of set screws so that you can clock the position to your preference. I wasn't thrilled about marring the shifter shaft with the set screws so I bought some replacements with brass tips. (#10-24 thread)
