Bill yes you will need a wheel sensor for your 91. No the new style will not work as -=JEFF=- stated totally different technology. A member here locobob converted his TPMS to the valve stem style system so maybe you can look to that old thread to see how he mounted the output into his existing DIC.
When you warn the tire guys you need to be visual or at least give them a clue. 20 yo men have no clue what this 28 year old tech looks like or where for that matter it is on mounted on the wheel. I bring in a used tire band and sensor to show them what it looks like. I explain where it is mounted in the center of the rim inside the wheel. That the sensing unit head is exactly 180 degrees from the valve stem so they know where to break the tire and go slow.
Works like a champ last time I went to discount tire the manager stopped the guys "the entire crew" to give them a show and tell and afterword several of them watched the tech break the tire. Since I go to Discount repeatedly I am referred to the tire band guy with the old vettes. This 28 year old tech rarely fails unless you strip or track your car. Become your own advocate for your car. Show them how the e brake releases. Be vocal share your hobby.
