Default Using Micrometer Stand On AL Block

When beginning the rebuild of my LT5 I had to mount a dial indicator micrometer to verify crankshaft end play. I'm also installing an ATI damper so I needed to verify TDC for modifying and positioning the timing tab. I used a piston stop to initially find TDC. When performing work such as setting TDC or plasticgauge the rod clearances, I don't install the rings to avoid scratch cylinder bore/liner walls. The crank rotates freely so I set up a dial indicator on #1 to return to TDC for working on the timing tab and setting it. I'll validate with a piston stop when done because the dial indicator method can be about +/- 1 degree due to dwell at TDC. I used a dial indicator to return to that position.

I discovered you can use the dial mic magnetic stand you can buy at Harbor Freight or online despite having an aluminum block. Just unscrew the arms from the magnetic base and it will screw right into the threaded holes on the face of the cylinder case. No need for making brackets or clamping the arms.
