Has anyone found a method/chemical/spray etc that works well on the engine itself? I have small "stains" that are here and there from what appears to be oil.
I've tried Simple Green, Purple power and a few other bio degradable products.
The only thing that seems to work is Acetone. I'll be happy to use it, but when I rub it on the covers or manifold "silver" comes off on the rag, so I worry about damage.
Anyone had success with something else?

I just use a micro-fiber towel, get it damp with some distilled water. But my engine has been recoated, which as stated above by others, makes it easier to wipe down. One thing I do, and this may make some on here cringe, is use a Magic Eraser with a very, very, very light touch.....This seems to work for the little rust stains from some of the bolts. If your getting silver on your rag from the acetone, your just wiping paint off. I would worry about the weathering effects of that
