.(note-ignore the 2013 time stamps, these are images of pictures. The following are all circa 2008
. Dad completed Clone #1, then less than 2 weeks later, he had his left leg amputated due to diabetes complications. He was in horrible pain during this build. Then when waiting for a prosthetic, he decided to fashion his own below the knee prosthetic by welding up some flat stock, and doing some leatherwork, to make it work for him. He certainly was a determined man.
Speaking of Dad, here is working on "Diamondback" clone #1 which he was commissioned to build in 2008
Here is Clone #1 of Diamondback.
Southern Belle in the forgroud with the original Diamond back on the trailer. The guy that commission Dad to build the clone had gone and located Diamondback and brought it back to the shop to refernce it while building Clone #1.
All 3 cars together L to R-Diamondback, Southern Belle and Clone #1.
And all of their "tail fins".
I asked the owner of Diamondback (the guy that paid Dad to build Clone#1) to call me when he was done with Diamondback as I wanted to buy it. He never called but sold it to another gentleman. This other gentleman then made a second Diamondback clone. This was the person that gave me the original Diamondback after substantial time/effort had already gone into the car. It was originally to be restored to its former glory, but the guys doing the work were let go, and no new prospective builders wanted to touch because they weren't the ones that disassembled her.
After Dads passing is when I got a call telling me to get a car trailer and come pick up Diamondback and a full load of parts. She even came with brand new tires and NOS sheetmetal.
I'm glad Diamondback is home again. I will eventually make some noise of my own with that car.
Dad and his cars, will always be "Cherished Memories".
