I agree with most of your post but this.
Next to a dyno, the trap speed of the car in the quarter mile gives the best indication of horsepower you can get. A bone stock C4 (375hp.) ZR-1, in good tune, will trap around 110mph. A 405hp. car a couple of mph quicker.
Your e.t. can vary wildly, due to the traction at the track, tires, driver ability, and a host of other factors. Although temperature, and atmospheric conditions do affect power, unless you screw up badly, trap speeds will not vary significantly.
