I have a 94 Z with 11K miles and bone stock minus the corsa's. I just went out and looked and mine does have a metal piece above the air cleaner lid but it doesn't really look like your pic. Mine is flat with a small lip at the rear towards the engine. I've actually never really noticed it in the 6 months I've had her. If you need me to snap a pic let me know.
