Re: Funny thing about Colonoscopies
Get it done while you can still benefit from the services of an Anesthesiologist. CMS (Medicare) beaureaucrats, in their infinite wisdom, have recently decided that anesthesia during a screening colonoscopy may be "unnecessary" and are discussing refusing to pay for it. As is the norm, private insurance companies are starting to follow suit. Many Anesthesia groups, including mine, have continued to provide this service, even though it may be gratis in many cases, but that is probably not sustainable in the long term. Colon cancer death is so very preventable with early detection. It is a shame that any health care policy maker would even think about doing anything that would decrease utilization of this excellent screening test. However, as has become obvious, health care policy has VERY LITTLE to do with patient care and well-being, and EVERYTHING to do with politics.
