That's what DOHC means - Dual Over-head Cam - 2 cams "over" the head. If it were an inline engine it could still be DOHC and only have 2 cams, on a V - 2 heads, 2 cams per head i.e. 4

If an engine only had one came per head it would be a SOHC - Single overhead cam engine. This was the set up on the Jaguar V12 for example which the LT5 designers "borrowed" quite a bit from.
