Couple years ago at Crown Point Corvette Challenge drags...
Pete is lining up along side a yellow C5 while I watched from the bleachers. A voice behind me said, "Oh, look! (So & so) is lining up against a C4. This ought to be good!" About 11.4x seconds later that same voice was saying
"Holy Sh!t"!
Then it was Dom's turn, and another C5... A hush came over the crowd as they lined up. Dom cuts the light first, and the only sound from the bleachers was, "Huh!!"
Back to Pete again, only it was a C6 lining up. This time someone shouts over the chatter in the stands, "Hey! It's that ZR-1 gain!" Someone else says, "What's a ZR-1?"
I hadn't intended to race, but I couldn't stand just spectating anymore. So, I lined up with my bone stock 90 against a yellow C5. Being new to official drag racing (my first ever pass), I didn't dump the clutch till the light went green - hence the .7 sec reaction time, and the C5 was out in front by a couple lengths before the Z started reeling him in. I passed him at the 1/8 and was a one or more lengths ahead at the finish. I was HOOKED!
By the time I got back to where Pete and Dom were parked, there was a crowd of people standing around - mostly around Pete - asking all sorts of questions about ZR-1s
This is one of my favorite YouTube videos,
"C4 ZR1 vs C5".
Listen closely. When the C5 jumps out by a nose, you hear the photog saying, "HA!!". Then, the Z starts relentlessly pulling ahead, and you hear, "Huh!" - obviously a surprise. And then the best line as the Z is several lengths ahead, "You aren't catching 'im!!"
