Re: Clutch "flare"

Thanks for the input. I have a new Centerforce disk as per MH’s clutch article. I also have a roller bearing pilot bearing. Just waiting for a tool to pull it out.

The pressure plate and...

Re: Clutch "flare"

Does the roller bearing pilot bushing require any special lubrication, or does it just go in as is?

Re: Clutch "flare"

So I attempted to order the shims needed in order to use the Centerforce clutch disk as recommended in the Marc Haibeck article. I ordered from McMaster-Carr figuring they would be a stand up company...

Re: Clutch "flare"

Have any of you ever attempted to replace a clutch with the car on jack stands? There's no real surprises here, are there? just a heavy transmission.
Remove exhaust, remove C-beam and drive shaft,...

Awesome. Thanks for all the info. I guess I’ll know more once I actually remove it.

Re: Clutch "flare"

Thanks! That article is exactly the information I’m looking for.

How does one determine the difference between needing just a new friction disk and needing a new flywheel and pressure plate too?

Re: Clutch "flare"

If the flywheel is ok and just needs a little scotch brite, then only the other components could be replaced? Any opinions on this set up?

Clutch "flare"

Hi, my 1990 has what a GM service technician called a flare. He drove the car up a slight hill in fourth gear at about 1200rpm and applied moderate gas. The clutch seemed to slip a little and the rpm...

WTB lug nut covers

Ugh. I hit a cone a little hard at my last auto cross. Looks like it knocked 3 lug nut covers into the bushes.

Anyone have some extras to sell?

Re: Code 41 = new ECM?

Well my Haibeck chip showed up about a week ago. The car had been sitting for about 2 weeks, so before I put in the new chip I thought I’d see if it was still throwing codes. Well, of course it...

Re: Code 41 = new ECM?

I thought module 4 was ECM as it reads “Err” when not communicating with the CCM, which it was doing when this started. That went away after cleaning contacts.

The vacuum hose is still...

Re: Code 41 = new ECM?

Re: Code 41 = new ECM?

Yes, under category 1 I get a C12 then the 3 dashes - - - then under category 4 I get H41 then the 3 dashes - - -.

To you, that indicates a healthy ECM?

Re: Code 41 = new ECM?

New MH chip on the way.

I cleaned the contacts once already with some 99% isopropyl. I do have some DeOxit for my audio equipment, I’ll give that a try just like you describe. There’s a lot...

Re: Code 41 = new ECM?

No coolant code. That one went away after the first time I completely disconnected the ECM and blew out the terminals. Just the 41 on the ECM codes now. The CCM codes give a C12 which I believe means...

Re: Code 41 = new ECM?

I took out the chip one more time. Made sure it was seated properly (with the battery disconnected). Put it back together, hooked up the battery, made sure there were no stored codes and started her...

After I washed it I would normally run the engine to dry everything, but I got called away and the...

Re: Code 41 = new ECM?

I don't have another chip to try, unfortunately. I'm not against buying one, I was going to get a Mark Haibeck one eventually anyway.

I disconnect the battery with each thing I try.

Is there...
