Trans popping out of first gear!

Well, my first big problem...

My trans is popping of first gear when I let off the gas. Any ideas?

Also, I've not been keeping up on the ZF situation on the listserver. What is the latest on where to get a transmission.

Cheers,
Ron

Ron, I can get one through my local chevy dealership for 1,095. It might be a pain to get it to you if not shipped, but let me know.

Sounds like you synchro is going out in first.

Now that I think about it, some times it's been a little hard to get it into first gear. Might have been trying to tell me something?

First I'll go down to the local dealer here in Vegas to see what I can get. If I have trouble getting a good deal I'll let you know.

Cheers,
RH

Ron,

Bill Boudreau can tell you exactly what is causing the transmission to slip out of gear. From what I remember from another member who had the same symption, Bill said there was a problem with a spring that pushes against a detent ball. That being said, I'm almost sure that $1,100 or $1,200 for a new transmission would be about as cheap or cheaper than having the old one repaired. Give Bill an email just for grins.

Good luck,

Will

Hello, and welcome to the forum. :handshak:

I agree with Jeff in that it is probably a synchronizer problem. I dont think you will need to replace the entire transmission however.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Bill emailed me last night with some advice. The trans is making a noise over the noise of the B&B which I didn't tell him about. I will see if he has any time to look at it. I hear he has a sweet deal for his beefed up versions.

Cheers,
Ron

OK,

Here is what I‘ve decided to do if the trans is bad and it needs a total rebuild...

Bill B will buy a new trans (with my money) and take the new parts and rebuild mine.

He will balance and blue print and stick it all back in my original case with matching numbers.

Cost:
$1200 or less for the trans (his cost)
$600 for the balance, blue print, and rebuild
He keeps the other parts

I'm taking it to him on Thu this week for the diagnosis.

Cheers,
RH

This sounds like a pretty good deal to me, Ron. Let us know how it turns out!
