A few parts for my next engine

Howdy, guys. Thought I would share some pictures as the pieces are slowing arriving for my spare LT5 buildup. The induction system is out being ported as we speak. I know my limitations...I'll let an expert build the bottom end and assemble the motor, but I need the market to turn around first to free up more capital!

Carrillo tapered H-beam rods. Stock rods weigh close to 750g, Olivers are around 650g. These are around 550g. The 4.00" Bryant crank has 2.00" journals.

Custom ATI super damper. Yes, it took over 2 months after the drawings were approved. The three pieces are the damper, pulley, and crank hub. It is about 20% lighter altogether than the OEM piece.

And last the mechanical buckets.... about half the weight of the GM hydraulics. Still not entirely decided to go this direction. Need to decide this spring before I order cams. The small pieces are the shims for lash clearance adjustment.

I forgot to snap pics of the new springs and Ti retainers. Will try to get that later.

tpepmeie,
Great pics and thanks for sharing.
Should be able to see some real high revs and power with the lighter valve train components.
Can you tell us where you found the mechanical buckets and Ti retainers?
And what piston/liner combo will you be going with and what is the power target?
Fascinating project.
Please keep us posted.

Great choice on the rods. I`m running a set of them in a 10 second dragboat with a 496 chevy. Also have another set of them here to turn a 1992 Chevrolet 454 SS pickup into a 496 SS.

I went with Crower Maxi-Lite B-4 with upgraded bolts, 625g but I plan to hit it with N2O

i deal with ATI on my higher end stuff. they really seem to be on top of the game right now, great stuff. been fair with me too, that's never a bad thing. your Dampr looks like it tuned out very nice, Todd. you happy how it turned out? i can't tell for sure...did you go with an aluminum hub?

Todd. Fastlane spent a ton of money and time on trying to do mechanical lifters and finally gave up. He felt the extra work needed to get the lash right did not justify the end gain.

I, generally, hate hydraulic lifters but mechanicals on an LT-5 can be a real PIA. if it was a steel (cast iron) deal well...it might (probably) be a different story. solids are, rough & dirty, most likely worth +4%-5% gain, all things being equal, which they never are. which way are you leaning, Todd?

Happy New Year
Very cool stuff Todd.
I always enjoy seeing new stuff, like a kid in a candy store.

I also kicked the idea of solid lifters but decided against it,i hope you can do it.

I'm also really interested in the damper.
Can you give me some more info.

My Z is all apart would love to put in a new light weight damper.

The basic damper is the ATI p/n 917020, a 2-ring aluminum 7" unit. That's the easy part... the crank hub and pulley are custom made for the LT5. I went with a steel hub, rather than Aluminum, per their recommendation.
