Wiring Harness

Does anybody make a "bare bones" wiring harness for the ZR-1 engine. Friend wants to put an LT5 motor in 55 Chevy and just needs the wiring for engine to run, doesn't want the "bells and whistles" stuff. Thanks

Re: Wiring Harness

Entire wiring harness can be had for a 3-4 hundred dollars. Let me know if interested.

Thanks FU2, but we're both 'wiring challenged.' He has the wiring harness but we don't know what or how to connect wires to anything! Looking for something basic just to run the engine and computers. We want to do away with everything not needed.

A Corvette manual can be a huge help.

Re: Wiring Harness

To the best of my knowledge nobody has ever offered an aftermarket wiring harness for the LT5. (If you think about it a little, you'll understand why.)
There is enough information in the FSM about the engine electrical system that sufficiently patient and thorough person could easily strip out all of the non-essential wiring in a standard wiring harness.
That being said, I wouldn't mind taking on such a challenge, however it wouldn't happen fast and I don't work cheap.
Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Re: Wiring Harness

Not sure what you mean by "bare bones". You need pretty
much the entire harness aside from say the AC stuff. If you're
running LT- 5 ECM you need all the sensors.

Re: Wiring Harness

Aftermarket harnesses are available but hard to get. The Detail Zone can build you one but the connectors are hard to get. I had to wait nearly a year for mine. Howell and Arizona speed and marine will take your old harness and convert it. The last one I got from Howell wasnt the best though. There are other companies, do a google search and phone around.

Try www.eficonnection.com or Painless Harness.

Re: Wiring Harness

Well guys, shows you how much I know about this modern machinery. My wiring experience goes back to if you needed it run, you could run a wire from the battery to coil and jam a screwdriver across the starter poles. Crank it and go! Nothing like points and carburetor!

And what I'm looking for is something like that, a basic wiring harness that would have an ignition switch, starter switch and what ever else necessary for basic engine operation. Couldn't I wire the inst gauges, A/C and other stuff on another circuit? I don't know?

But I want to thank all who have responded and please throw out some other ideas if you have any. Thanks
