Reliable Maryland Repair/Body shops???

Hey everybody,

I recently brought my '91 ZR-1 to Baltimore, Maryland and need to get state inspection. Does anyone know any reliable shops that I should use? I took my car to Jerry's Chevrolet and they were literally clueless! Told me parts needed replaced that I KNEW were functional and wouldn't show me why parts wouldn't pass!!! RIDICULOUS!!!! Anyway, just want to get hooked up with reliable/trustworthy shops in this area.

Also, I'm interested in some paint work to fix the sun damage to some of the clearcoat. Not looking to spend show-car prices since my car's more like a daily driver.

I've already talked to Tony's Corvette Shop in Gaitherburg, MD. They refer their customers to couple adjacent shops for inspections and paint work. Considering trying them but any good shops closer to Baltimore?

Help much appreciated!!!

You might want to try Sport Chevrolet in Silver Spring, MD. They have a certified ZR-1 mechanic (Frank Stiner). Contact Larry Isaac (service writer) 301-890-6000 x250. I'm not sure about their body shop, never used them before. My Z is there right now getting some odds and ends taken care of before Carlisle.

Hello and Welcome to the Baltimore area.

I agree with Polo90 about service for a ZR-1.

There are quite a few (18 that I know of) active ZR-1 owners here in the Maryland/Northern Virginia area. I will send you a PM about some local stuff.

I know Tony's is a bit from Baltimore BUT the paint shops he uses (and recommended to you) do top work. The original red top for my ZR-1 had a scratch in it (from original owner c1990) and Tony being a NCRS type did not want to do a total repaint, but rather 'blend and buff'... excellent work by the paint shop. So you might want to consider a bit of drive distance for results at the end.

Thanks for the feedback. Hearing more and more good things about Tony's. I'd say Sport Chevrolet and Tony's are almost the same distance from me +/- 10 miles or so. I'll have to plan a trip to one of them on my day off. Thanks guys for all the good advice. :icon_thum

For an inspection only, I used Thoroughbred Transmission, a couple weeks ago. The owner, Steven Powell, does all the inspections. It's a little closer to you than Sport, but at Sport, will their ZR-1 guy be doing the inspection? If not, I'd recommend Thoroughbred. Welcome to Maryland!
