Re: B&M on the bay
do you have one of these John? i haven't really noticed anybody talking much about aftermarket (B&M/Hurst) shifters for our cars. i have never went looking for any threads either, to be fair. is there much improvement or not a ton? i know the Viper guys say they help quite a bit. just wondering...

Re: B&M on the bay
I have the Hurst and there is quite a difference. Much better shifts and more positive feel.
Haven't tried the B & M, Bill Boudreau www.zfdoc.com modifies them. He installed one in Uly's car in Vegas and it has the shortest throws I've ever seen. |
Re: B&M on the bay
can you tell it's in place of the stock shifter or no? i wonder if the B&M & Hurst are going to end up being the same in time now that B&M ownes Hurst?

I like mine, I was consistantly missing third gear with the factory shifter, now--notsomuch... I do like the feel, and they aren't hard to install at all. |

What is involved with installing one of these? |

ZF, do you want a sticky? Basically, you need to disassemble the center console, unbolt the shifter from the trans, disassemble the shifter, install the new shifter and reassemble the whole thing. I did mine while I was installing the fidenza and the new clutch (since I had the trans out anyway). It's not too difficult. Some say you need to remove the exhaust (I had mine out anyway), some say you don't. Make sure that you get one with bearings installed. Most of the Hurst shifters are shipped without bearings. Hurst still has never shipped me bearings. I went third party to the bearing house (AH1010 bearings I believe.) and bought some. |

Re: B&M on the bay
Anyone tried this without removing the exhaust? Let me know if it can be done. If this is something that I can do in the garage (no lift), it's probably game on.
