Performance clutch?
 

The car is most likely going to get a Fidanza flywheel this winter, it would seem like the time to put in a clutch as well. Any points as to a good choice - Centerforce, Carolina, etc?

I've got a Fidanza flywheel going in this winter as well and I'm staying with the stock disk and pressure plate as it has only 7500 miles on it and it is working fine.
I thought about ungrading however, after reading Haibeck's comments on the issue http://www.zr1specialist.com/HAT%20W...eel-clutch.htm decided stick with what the General issued for now.

From what I've read over the years, the stock clutch is just fine for nearly all stock/mildly modded street applications.
Highly modified cars need more sticky and less civility for drag racing, so they generally opt for the aftermarket kevlar type clutches and they have to change them regularily.

I'm running the stock clutch on the fidanza. with the LPE 390 and the 234 cams, the rattle is pretty loud, but with the B&B exh, you really don't hear it that much inside the car. I did notice that drag racing the car (508 rwhp) as marc mentioned I'm at the limit the stock clutch can take and it can get glazed pretty easily.

we also tried a mcleod sprung disk and had a rather dramatic failure, one side of the disk had about 1/3 of the material let go after one burnout.

I have to think that this was likely just a defective disk, as marc has used these disks quite a bit with good results.

when going to the fidanza, you should consider a sprung hub disk to help quiet things down. the stock disk is solid, and will be a bit noisier, although in my application, I honestly didn't notice any difference at all. it was loud before, and it's still loud!!

the fidanza is a good alternative, just be prepared for the gear rattle. having the chip updated for a bit higher idle speed helps, and also many zf boxes are quieter than others, the boxes that bill b blueprints seem to be quieter and shift better too!!

If you are looking for a nice sprung disc, take a look at the McLeod 261871. It's a kevlar disc and is sprung.

But for all purposes, a stock clutch disc is fine. Dwight still runs one in his 415, although it did get a little hot at the BG drags from hot lapping it.

With a Fidanza al flywheel does the spring hub of the McLeod 261871 help reduce the gear rattle much?

I use the Spec Stage 2 pressure plate and clutch with the Fidanza. Never tried other aftermarket stuff on this car, so I can only compare to stock. I like the results. You wont eliminate the slight rattle, but the springs help.

I have the same set-up as above in my Ruby with proper break-in it's doing great.:thumbsup:
