AC problems

The air conditioning in my ZR-1 decided to take the day off today. Anyone familiar with re-charging the system? Since it was working recently, could it be a bad compressor unit? Thanks!

Could be several things - does the compressor run ? If not, it's probably low on freon. R12 or R134A ? If the compressor does run there could be a problem with the mixing door inside the cabin. Are there any codes set ??

I'm guessing it is R12 freon since it is a 91 Z. The air worked today but when it was 92 degrees out it didn't work. There weren't any diagnostic codes listed and it seems as though the compressor works. Would a faulty thermostat(within the air unit) be a possibility? I am not familiar with the mixing door inside the cabin. I would assume that it is in a similar location to where the cabin filter would be found? I generally don't even use the air but when the boss(wife) comes along, she wants it on. Thanks for your assistance!

If it is low on freon the low pressure switch will be open (no continuity). If you have an FSM, find the sensor, unplug the connector & check for continuity. If there is continuity, it could be the air conditioner controller under the dash. It can be reset by removing battery power & reconnecting. My 1990 A/C quit, I checked the low pressure switch & it was good, I removed battery power to reset the controller & it has been working scince (about two months).
