radio fix?

in your humble opinions, out of the two, where is the better place to send a unit to be repaired/upgraded/updated Dr. Don's or Bose direct?

Well there is also a 3rd recommended choice, that being FCSR.
I am not sure if you have seen this thread in the Audio section but it has links to all three.

If it were your speakers I'd say Bose would be the top choice provided you were sending off your entire enclosure. They will replace everything that needs it with new equipment for the same price your pay just to get the amps done. As to the radio itself I'd base my decision on not only the cost and warranty, but also the turn around time.

I need to get my head unit fixed. The CD player dosent work.

I can do a full aftermarket stereo, but I would rather retain the stock setup.

I sent mine out the FCSR...they were really fast and efficient.

on my new Ruby Zee the CD won't load, everything else with the system seem's O.K., so i need that fixed & i would get the entire system stepped up to any modern technology availible at the same time. i'll be doing this over the winter so time is not an issue, our winters are way too long. i've always heard good things about Dr.Don's but BOSE must know what they're doing as well ssooo...

Dr. Don's did a fine job on mine.

Re: radio fix?

Dr Don's did mine when I was having CD player issues. Mine still chokes on some CD's, but it's better than it was before. I thought about upgrading to the newer/better CD unit that he offers, and I probably should have. The only reason I wanted to try the "cheaper" fix was it's somewhere around $200 extra for the different CD player on top of the $130 for standard repair. At that price point, you're pretty close to justifying a complete system replacement. If I was going to spend almost $400 for just a repair, I could put together a complete system for only around $700-800 that would blow the doors off the stock BOSE setup. You can get a very competent head unit for $200 or less, then a set of speakers and an amp and you're set. The biggest issue would be running all the wiring, and hiding the amp.
