Scan tool

Is there an OBD1 scanner on the market, other than the Tech 1 that widely referred to, that is acceptable for basis diagnostics, code reading and clearing ?
Seems when I type in OBD 1, I keep getting OBD 2 scanners or they claim it will do 2 and 1 which sounds suss to me. Could someone please advise and / or steer me in the right direction. TIA

Cheers, Rusty 🇦🇺

If you want to use a laptop computer you can get DataCat. It is a product of Tunercat. You can get the software, purchase and then download, and the cable to connect your laptop to the diagnostic connection on the car. There is a lot of data that you can get from the car with this software tool, I think all the data that the ECU gets from the engine, it is very useful I think and I am only a novice at using and understanding all the available data.

Code reading and clearing can be done via paperclip or the cluster itself.

Besides those methods....

Similar to a Tech-1, I use a Vetronix MasterTech w/GM cartridges I picked up on eBay to read/clear codes, spot check other OBD1 information, or perform other simple tests it can do.

One of these, but you need to have the GM cards.

When I want more data over a period of time or to see certain attributes together at once, then I use TunerPro RT with a USB cable from Red Devil River to my OBD port to datalog. 90-93 use the 12-pin OBD1 style port while 94/95 use the 16-pin OBD2 style port even though the vehicle still runs OBD1. They offer an adapter between the two styles.

I can't tell you what will work, but I recently purchased a Actron CP9690 and it does _not_ work with my '95. It connects but gives a link failure as soon as data starts to stream.

I use an Android phone, OBD1 cable with an OTG adapter on the phone,
Then I use the ALDLDroid App and it just so happens I wrote the Scan Definition files for 90-95 ZR-1s.. the ADX files work with both TunerPro and ALDLDroid

I use an old Snap-On MT2500. Requires the card for GM obd1. Available on eBay at reasonable cost.
