Clear coat?
When my Z was repainted in 2015, it was done with a "new" DuPont paint (that was said to being used by BMW) which did NOT require a clear coat.
Well, it has been 6 years now, and my paint looks good as the day it was sprayed (save for a couple rock chips ): i.e., no clear coat. My 2017 F250 has sat out in the sun (never in a garage) since new and all I did was wash it until last week. I put a ceramic polish on it and it glistens like it was just painted. And, I don't believe it was clear coated, but I don't know. So, I was curious: Does GM/Ford, etc., still spray clear coats on new cars (and trucks)? Anybody know? |
Re: Clear coat?
GM has been using clear coat since 1956 and Ford have been using clear coat for many decades now. But the Ford transit van has been using clearcoat-free process to cut painting, curing times. The Transit vans are the first to use the new two-wet monocoat paint process developed since 2014.
