Who knows Kim Baker?

Or really who knows Kim Baker's Corvettes? Looks like in a couple web pictures there was a Black early C4. Did he own any ZR-1s? If so what years and what #s were they?

Thanks

Kim Baker was/is a famous Corvette racer,
first on the west coast, now living on the
east coast. Doesn't race anymore. We were
trying to get him to attend the ZR-1 30th anniv.
at Bowling Green this year, but...

He had a great relationship with Chevrolet and I think they occasionally gave him Corvettes. But, I don't think he was allowed to sell them.

Can you share a link to a web page picture you're referring to?

I don't think Kim ever lived on the west coast. AFAIK he's been in MA for a long time. I first heard of Kim when he was racing Fiat (and later Bertone) X1/9's (which I had). Then he started racing Corvettes in the (new at that time?) SCCA Showroom Stock GT class. That was around '84-'85. The C4 was new. I think he caught Chevrolet's eye because he was so successful. Unbeatable, really.

Later he raced in the new Playboy Endurance series, which changed to the Escort series. Fun times with lots of fast Corvettes and Porsche 944 Turbos.

Next (I think) were the other pro series like SCCA World Challenge and Bridgestone Supercar series. Oh, and he was a hired ringer when the Nascar series came to Lime Rock Park, Watkins Glen, ...

Nowadays Kim sells vintage cars and racers.

Re: Who knows Kim Baker?

I will see if I can find it again..

If he was in MA for a long time then my post overall might be irrelevant..

I would love to find out history on my car.. curious on its early use.. It had an aftermarket prom which when I asked years ago, no one knew who did it. then when I was working on the tail light harness I found it had a flat 4or 5 wire trailer harness, so I thought maybe the car was tracked.

When I bought the car it had left rear 1/4 damage.. Carfax showed no accidents .. then I found it was hit in the back 1/4 outside of the visible damage.. I also know it was tagged near the windshield and the drivers door was replaced, which lead to the assumption that the car was tracked.

Ultimately I would like to find out who did the tune.. but I will probably never find out.

This car moved around a bit.. bought new in FL, went to Hardford CT in 1993, then Chattanooga TN in 98, Dalton Ga in 99 then CO in 2000

Kim Baker owned at least one ZR-1. The last Corvette to run a professional race series, the Pirate Racing #75, donated to the National Corvette Museum by the late Jim Van Dorn, is an ex-Bakeracing ZR-1.

Pretty sure Kim Baker built the ZR-1 convertible
that Mike Beale in CT had a few years ago?
Or, maybe just the motor?
Where is that car now?
It was so well done you'd swear the factory built it.

Yep, I remember those were Kim's numbers (at least in the 1980's). #4 was usually the primary car.
