Service Engine Soon light

I drove my 90 model to the office this morning as I am dropping her off at the body shop to have the front bumper painted. When I left the my house the service engine soon light came on. Should have turned around but it is 4 miles to the office so I came on. All that said, is it safe to drive the car to the body shop with the light on? It's about 3 miles from my office.

Coincidentally I purchased a used Tech 1 Scanner and it was delivered yesterday. I will find a manual online and pull codes once I get the car home.

Agreed, however you will not get secondaries to work with the SES light on. Pull the code(s) and report back.

Hi Bill, I took it to Northrich Collision in Garland. I have an small insurance business and have referred clients to them. They always get excellent reviews from the folks I have sent their way.

The front bumper has a bad fiberglass area on it so they are repairing it and painting the bumper. The previous owner had put ZR-1 emblems on each side of the hood so I am having them removed and the hood painted as it has a couple of scratches. The rest of the car is in decent shape for 30 year old paint.

Those OEM-like emblems are sometimes hard to find, and pricy when you do find them. If they are in good condition, you can put them up for sale. (I did put them on my 90. And, an unexpected result has been an increase in the number of ppl at car shows that stop to chat about the ZR-1. And, less seldom to ppl pull up along side of me on the street and display all the "wanna race?" antics.[-X

I can see removing them for an NCRS judging. But, IMO GM made no effort to differentiate the Zs from the base cars in any meaningful way, UNTIL complaints prompted them to install the fender badges on later model years.
