Repairing DIS Module?

When my car was dead, I feared that the DIS module was the culprit. Turns out that I had a dead fuel pump...

However, when I was looking for one, I found a place called G7 computers (https://www.g7computers.com/) that rebuilds automotive ECUs. I sent them a message asking if they could repair the DIS module in my 1991 ZR1 and I got a message back that they can repair them and they would charge me $225 for it. I was kinda shocked because I was under the impression that they were not repairable.

My first question is: Has any one tried sending on to them? Second: Any one have a dead one sitting around? I'm game to send out out and see if they can indeed fix it. They said that if they can't they will send it back no charge.

Cheers,

Reed

My suspicion is that they’ve never seen one.

Perhaps. But there gig is fixing automotive electronics. If I had a dead dis module, I’d send it to them and see what happens. If they can’t fix it, no charge. Worst case you loose the shipping cost. Even if you get charged the $225 plus shipping and it comes back non op it seems like a worth while gamble.

Seems like it’s worth the gamble. If mine was dead or I had a dead one, I’d give it a shot.

I seem to recall that all or portions of that module is POTTED. If so, that would throw a wrench in plans to have it serviced.

Last I heard, Jerry Downey (Jerry's Gaskets) was working on providing remanufactured DIS modules. Maybe he can enlighten us a bit?

The potting material is not unique to the LT5 ignition system, V12 Mercedes have a Transformer and 2 ignition coil systems with 12 coils per side …. they are imbedded in potting material but are rebuildable... so that shouldn't be an obstacle.

Re: Repairing DIS Module?

If we presume they can repair a DIS unit, it implies they can test it as well. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone that can bench test one. Do I have that right?

for the price of one of these DIS modules used you can buy a MS3 pro and have some change left over for install

not a trivial conversion, but it provides much faster and fully tunable ecm, coil on plug, and wide band

I'm tempted, I have a good use DIS module and the engine apart

Have any developments been made in repairing the Ignition Module or is my car a "paperweight" as someone put it. I am hoping ill hear my LT5 run again but everything i read says this is dame near impossible to get around.
