Interior Light On
I have a recurring issue. I replaced the passenger door light switch a year or so ago and it seemed to fix the problem. Issue is back though. Interior lights will come on going down the road. Around a turn. Or just sitting they will come on sporadically when I haven’t Drive the car or opened the door that day. Have to keep it on a charger. They just come on for no reason. Really bad if they come on at night when driving. I do notice they flicker on and off more if I go around a turn or hit a bump. Hatch and all is closed tight. Any ideas?

Re: Interior Light On
Door switches are self-adjusting type. Meaning, it has a plunger that slides in to another piece with friction between the two. When you buy a new switch, this plunger is extended and when the door is shut, retracts just enough to allow for car to car variation. Problem is, after multiple door closing, often plunger will get pushed in too far and all of a sudden switch is too short to be pushed in sufficiently.
Trick, I found, is cut a 1/8” vacuum tube about 1/8” to 3/16” length and split open. Pull the plunger out extending the switch length and wrap vacuum tube around extended plunger. Piece of rubber vacuum tube will keep the plunger from retracting and length of the switch long enough to disengage when the door is shut. https://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corv...E&gclsrc=aw.ds See the skinny shaft right below flat button? If completely pushed in, switch is too short. |
Re: Interior Light On
For the hatch a nipple on the rear striker on the glass helps to meet the gap issue ensuring they make contact. These parts are almost 30 years old so replacement will need to occur from time to time. The drivers door and hatch normally wear out first. GC

Re: Interior Light On
Thanks for the help. I think it is the passenger door switch again. Little plunger is gone. Eckler part. Maybe 2 years old. But it goes off and comes on so maybe almost long enough. I will measure it and glue a spacer on it and see if it works. I can’t remember if the eckler part was GM or not, but a strange design in my opinion. Water got the last switch or internal failure. Open the door and it would turn the lights off. Close the door and it would come on.
