4.10 Gears!

Been a great ZR-1 weekend. Went to Carlisle on Friday then spent Saturday installing a swap-out diff with a 4.10 gearset.
Big shout out to Phil Wasinger - He rebuilt a 2nd-hand Dana 44 for me: Viper gearset, new clutches and bearings. Contact pattern is picture-perfect! I am saving my original 12k mile original diff intact. Also added ZF Doc beam plates and Marc's speedo correction gears. Thanks also to Dempsey, he gave me a few tips as we chatted for a while at his Carlisle booth on Friday about wrestling the C-beam out. Here are a few pics. I made up a fixture to keep the diff square on the hoist so that I was able to handle it as a 1-man job. And she runs great!! Can't quite lift the front tires off the ground but a nice upgrade. |

A great upgrade for more zip from the ZR-1!

It was an enjoyable project and I was able to put my new lift to good use.
Phil had the case bead blasted and added the drain plug for me. Here is a pic of the gear pattern he achieved. |

Agree, 4:10 is a big difference to the original 3:45. Could never go back now [emoji16]

Re: 4.10 Gears!
Well done. I found this to be a great mod. One may have an extra shift in the 1/4, but so much better for street and road course. With headers and Corsas, I can cruise at 75 in 6th at about 2200 and have an easy conversation with the passenger.

There is a straightaway near my house. Used to be that I would enter the straightaway at 20mph, downshift to first in a rolling takeoff and hit 7k fairly quickly and i was at 90 barely into second gear. Now i reach 7k in first so quick I was not prepared to shift so quickly. Can't wait to take it out again! |
Re: 4.10 Gears!
Nice. Thanks for the pics. I find that I do alot of 1 to 3 shifts with 4.11s in town. Thats kind of a good thing since its usually the 2nd gear synchros that go bad in in ZF6s.
