Doing DRM coilovers, best place to buy shocks?

Doing DRM coilovers soon, and figure I should replace the shocks since I have no idea how many miles/years on on the current ones. What’s the best place to buy new ones, and should I do anything other than stock valving? Car is mainly weekend use, and I do multiple back road runs each year on twisty roads. Would t mind a little firmer rode for better handling.

Guess I should have clarified, yes it’s a DRM coilover setup (slightly used) for factory FX3 shocks. Pete will be doing the install and can machine the shocks.

Right now FX3 shocks are on back order everywhere from Bilstein. As far as I know you won't find a complete set. Also if you send your FX3's out for rebuilding, the parts are on back order (in that boat right now). I was told sometime in April last time I checked but not holding my breath.

Can you feel a difference with your FX3 now? If so, have Pete groove what you have and install them, drive it and determine if you want custom valving.. I drive my car on weekends and such, like you, I have stock shocks with coilovers and it seems fine for me.

Yes, can definitely feel a difference with what I have now. Tour is somewhat "floaty", Sport is more buttoned down (and where I typically leave it), and Performance is a little stiffer (although not nearly as much difference between Sport & Performance as Tour to Sport).

Hi. Who is doing your rebuild, if I may ask? Last I heard Bilstein wouldn’t do it any longer.

Performance Shock in Sonoma. Bilstein tech referred me to them. Unfortunately until the parts become available, everyone is in a holding pattern. Mine are sitting on a work bench somewhere.

Bilstein will do aftermarket shocks, just not the original OEM's. Someone at GM complained, all it does is hurt us, the customer in the end.

Guess I'll just go with the ones that are on the car and just rebuild them later if/when they fail.

I also have another ZR1 with coil overs and stock valving, it handles well. I was doing the other one with different valving to compare, but that will have to wait. As long as your shocks are not leaking (mine were), you'll be fine.

On another note, while I was waiting, I installed a set of ridetech adjustable shocks (no coil overs, stock suspension) and was very impressed. You loose the FX3 but I never changed the setting anyway so no biggie.

What's the difference between the coils transverse leaf springs when driving
