New Dual Mass flywheel
Since my last engine rebuild/install, I have been chasing ratty, rattling noise coming from drivetrain at idle. At first, I suspected faulty injector/injects and replaced all injectors this spring from rebuilt FIC injectors to Accel injectors which failed to correct the situation.
Last resort was new DM flywheel. Finding a NOS DM was not easy. However, as I was looking, DRM500RUBYZR-1 had one for sale on the other forum at a great price! Contacted Marty, Tom (Roadster) volunteered to pick it up and deliver to Westminster, etc, etc... Last Saturday, I finally got around to installing it at Jim's in Westminster - a WAZOO event. More correctly, Glen, Jim and Al did all the hard work and I helped.:) While at it, cleaned dirt and grease build up under the car, replaced back up light switch, installed a new pressure plate, TO bearing, pilot bearing, resealed the tail shaft seal, patched up damaged heat/sound insulation, etc... Had to use lightly used clutch offered by Jim since I forgot that I had used a new clutch that came with the kit before and managed to drop the clutch/pressure plate while removing from the car damaging both. Wow! What a difference a good DM flywheel makes! Idle is butter smooth with no ratty, chattering noise at idle and the LT5 sounds and feels buttery smooth as she revs up. I had a bit of thumping at idle and chalked it up to higher lift intake cams I had installed. Now, I suspect old, worn out DM was the culprit. A great, big thanks to WAZOO and Marty! Re: New Dual Mass flywheel
Congratulations! I also switched back from Fidanza to OEM Dual Mass FW after transmission overhaul by ZFDoc. Absolutely couldn't be happier. Having driven my car with the Fidanza and now with the Dual Mass, I don't "feel" any difference in acceleration. I've got Dyno data with Fidanza setup, so might get on the rollers again to see what difference is actually there. It's minimal if anything.

Re: New Dual Mass flywheel
Actual work typically takes about 5 hours. I spend a bit of extra time cleaning stuff while the car is on the lift. We had one to two people actually working on the car taking turns. Overall, it took about 7 hours.

Ah, dual-mass FW? Did you say DUAL-MASS FW???
WEEEE DOAN NEED NO STEENKING DUAL-MASS FLYWHEELZ!! I'll take the snappy response (especially in 1st n 2nd gears!!) over a little noise in neutral (only)! |
