Well kids....it happened

I dont know if you all remember, but I posted last year or so and I mentioned that I had a 94 yellow zr1 coming my way via a will. Well after a summer of discussion and me offering to just buy the car and figure out the will stuff later.... it happened. He gave me a damn zr1 corvette. I'm beyond ecstatic. I'm beside myself. It certainly isn't the most noble way to get the car, but I frankly dont care. I am humbled beyond words. If had my eye on this car for 20 years. It took my mother's passing and a few battles, but damn if I'm not the luckiest guy I know.

I already started the rehab process with new nt555's (777$ mounted and balanced which I feel is fair), 2 spare keys made and a fuel pump gets here Tuesday so I can see how much fuel I have.

My question is concerning the rear. There is a "clinking" that happens when i take off. It's not every time, but a lot. If I was in my truck, I'd say it's a u-joint but I'm told it may be a different problem. im not familiar with the ins and outs what this car has. It seems to be noticeable in the driver's side, but that could be because I'm on that side most. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help

Hello and congrats and welcome to the brotherhood of ZR-1 amazingness . Yellow is an awesome color but remember the cops will find you easier lol .
How long has the car sat ? It could be just a rusted disk brake but also a wheel bearing or u-joint as you mentioned . I would also check the dif oil . Maybe that needs to changed along with other fluids also ..
Others will chime in soon ...We're all away this week driving our Z's

Yes, congrats are in order....and also requests for pics, we enjoy seeing pics...
As Mike mentioned your noise could be a few different items. Of course closer inspection is needed, and the first thing I would do it put it up on a lift and check everything out.
My 82 also had the noise that you described and it turned out to be a u-joint...FWIW....Good luck...

Congrats, Regimof on the "new" Z!

Concerning the clicking when taking off, I had a similar problem when I first bought my '94 two years ago. Don't know if it's the same one... but here is the link:

When I first got mine there was a similar noise, it ended up being loose lug nuts on one wheel. It may be u-joints as well, but its easier to check the lug nuts.

I also had a similar noise in my '95--more of a clunking than a clicking-- when I backed out of my slightly inclined driveway. Had Marc Haibeck check as part of an overall servicing. He said my rear sway bar bushings looked quite dry but also said they looked tight and he couldn't physically get the noise to repeat while working on it. Nevertheless he replaced the sway bar bushings and the noise went away. 25-30 year old cars. Got to expect a few things to give up. --Bob

I have a friend with a lift but I'm not sure how well my skills of diagnosis are.

I assume that aside from being wider the rear ends on the zr1 and a base corvette are essentially the same thing and can be dealt with by a common chevy dealer.

Thanks for the congrats. It's amazing. I still can't believe it's mine.

Does anyone know of anyone in the Minneapolis area that's good with the lt5?

Congrats ! I would guess u joints first. I had one go on me a long time ago on my lt1 car and it clicked on take off etc. If its been parked a while check for sticking brakes and such as others mentioned.
