Diode Air Conditioning Clutch
Does anyone know what type of diode to use on the AC clutch coil?
I have 1N4004 diode but I think that for an 89. Anything for LT5? If not I'll give 1N4004a shot. |

A diode across a coil is there to absorb a surge when the magnetics release. It's not like it's a constant current thing. That diode should be fine.

LT5 clutch is different than the standard. It is unique due to the higher RPM I believe.
When I bought my Z, the belt was shredded. I put a new belt on and within a week, it was shredded also. I looked through all the receipts that came with the car, and found where the a/c clutch had been replaced. I referenced the pn and it was for the LT1. I showed this to the dealer, and he replaced the clutch with the correct one for free, even though it was the previous owner who had it replaced. |

I've seen this TSB by FourSeasons regarding the diode you mention but the TSB references the RS part number for that diode part #. RS # 276-1103 is their number for the # you referenced. Does it mean squat? Don't know. http://www.4s.com/Upload/Four%20Seas...STALLATION.PDF The GM TSB regarding all diodes: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...print-217.html |
