1990 Horn Issues - Fixed
Just wanted to post this in case anyone needed it. My horn was not working, although the alarm did, much to the chagrin of my neighbors :)
After doing some searching it sounded like it might be the horn cam in the steering column. I pulled the column apart and this is what I found: http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...pshaavldw8.jpg I couldn't find a part number, although I was told that Autozone had the correct part. The salesperson looked up the part and gave me something which didn't look like it would work. I did not have the column apart yet so I didn't have a clear picture of what I needed. I took my chances with the part below and it worked. Best of all it was only $6. http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...pspi2niipz.jpg Hope this info is helpful to someone trying to get thier horn to function. |

Thanks for the information and photo/part number
So.......this is a horn cam or turn signal cam? This operates the turn signal? How difficult and what was the procedure to install this new turn signal cam? Is the New part you received identical to the Old part you removed? |

The part was not difficult to install with the exception that you need a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel and there is a wire clip that holds the lock plate on. Compressing the spring to remove and install it was not an easy job, but I was able to do it with a small screwdriver and lots of thumb pressure. :) The new part was identical to the one I removed, but it came with a black piece of plastic that was glued on the outside, covering the brass tabs you see in the first picture. I just peeled it off and all else was identical. I apologize for not taking additional pictures and being more detailed. I just noticed from the web search that horns were a problem with these cars and no one had an actual part number for the needed piece. Plus I was trying to give back a little knowledge for all the help I am getting here. Below is a picture with the steering wheel off and a view of the lock plate. The wire clip is below the wave washer in the picture. http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...psxmjwixsg.jpg Please feel free to ask additional questions! |

You also need a steering wheel puller, but the wheel came off pretty easy. I don't have an airbag so I didn't need to deal with the connectors for that, but I don't believe that's too difficult. |

Now I know why I couldn't get the horn to work on the car, when I installed the Momo steering wheel. After all these years, you figured it out,Tony.
Thanks. That makes me confident in installing another Momo on our 94. |
