Oil Filters
Anyone notice no one stocks Bosch filters anymore...all Fram at this point; Autozone, O Reillys, Advanced, etc

Re: Oil Filters
Autozone had a oil and filter sale about 2 months ago. I purchased a Bosch filter for the Z but it was the only one left. I forget what's on the car now but it is not Bosch.

Re: Oil Filters
Had them order 6 for me last summer. Should last about 3 years.

Re: Oil Filters
Lee,
If you need one I have a Mobil 1 I can send you. NAPA also has their brand. |
Re: Oil Filters
The latest iteration of the Bosch branded filters have a crappy drainback valve anyhow- I would avoid them unless you know you are getting an older one. I just look for old stock AC Delco, Purolaters, or Wix- the last two being pretty available anywhere.

Re: Oil Filters
Bought a NAPA Gold 1324 the other day - told the guy I was surprised he had one - said there was more on the shelf and then went on to look at the screen and read several other applications for the part. From what I heard, there should be no problem getting the NAPA part in the future.

Re: Oil Filters
Used the Bosch until a couple of years ago when the anti drain properties changed and the filter was no longer the same ... I knew something was wrong when the chain rattle got really bad. I believe Marc documented this as well.
I currently have a supply of Napa gold that I caught on sale awhile back ... @ $5.00 a filter I think. I also have several AC Delco (blue) that work really well ... got mine from Amazon for $5.00 each shipped. Since I prefer black filters I always spray the filters before installing (glossy, satin, or flat ... tried them all). The black filters don't have any labels but I'm also not trying for NCRS judging, so it works for me. Startup chain rattle with the Delco & Napa seems to be about the same. I actually prefer the fluted edges on the Delco but otherwise either filter works well for me. |
Re: Oil Filters
Haibeck 2011 Oil Filter update: Recently we have observed that the anti-drain back valve in the Bosch 3401 filter is leaking. The filter looses most of the oil after the engine is off for 24 hours. This causes an approximately one second delay before the oil pressure builds at startup. This can add to the time that the right side camshaft chain rattle occurs. My current recommendation is for the ACDelco PF970C filter. We have found that it retains eight ounces of oil after the engine is off for 24 hours. Although the part number has a "C" in it like the original ZR-1 filter the color of the filter is blue. We also found that the NAPA 1324 filter retains eight ounces of oil after the engine is off for 24 hours. The filter is white in color and is made by WIX. |
Re: Oil Filters
Thanks for the update, Lee ... I think I quit Bosch 3 or more years ago now that I think about it.
Marc's 1st recommendation is the Delco 970c and those are currently available for $5.27 from Amazon with free shipping if you have a Prime account. I just checked Amazon and they have 10 left in stock (they had almost 20 about an hour ago) but they usually restock fairly quickly when they sell out. As I mentioned above, I like the Delco ... peel the label off, clean up the glue residue, spray it black, and install it ... works like a charm. |
