Re: 95 #447 on Fleabay
That is Clint Atkins old car, he and his partners were real estate giants and started a Hobby Company. I lived in Clints apartment complex in Champaign and had drinks with him from time to time; and used to go bar hopping with his son Spencer. He had a net worth of $450M and you would never know it....except for the cars, Rolls Convertibles, etc.
The ZR-1 was a birthday gift from his partner. Clint passed a few years back, great guy |

Here is his Company info Hobbico...just realized something, Clints Company owned Kyosho in 1984...that's the company that made all of those remote control ZR-1 cars you see selling on ebay. I guess we probably know why they made them...

This is kind of a sad story...I believe Clint Atkins died a few years ago from a heart attack. You remember the old articles on Bruce and this car, ...they showed him, his wife, and his son, usually with a couple of other cars (new 1997 and also a 1996 Collector Edition) parked in front of Bruce's foreign fighter jet trainer. As I said, sad story. Bruce's son, Justin died of alcoholism in 2009. They dedicated a school building in his name after him in the Naples, FL area. Really, my impression is that after losing his son, Bruce, just didn't care so much any more about things such as this ZR-1. I am under the impression that he gave the car to his mechanic (who sold it quite cheap) and this gentleman, the "Garage Man", who is selling it on Ebay, scooped it up for a ridiculously low price and now is trying to turn it for close to 100K. Yes, I am sure that this is Bruce's car. |

An aside, Bruce acquired his jet trainer, after he got the idea from Bob Lutz, who also had a fighter/trainer. Bruce's was complete with Russian MIG markings!

Wow incredible this car is for sale....
I wish I could buy this, but then again I'd probably ruin it by driving it!!! Hope it goes to somebody who will allow us to see it in the NCM from time to time cheers David |
